摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce frequency for using power increase in a high ground, to reduce fuel consumption and to improve sensibility in operating an accelerator, by making smaller a load discriminating value for controlling the operation of an electromagnetic clutch of a turbocharger in the high ground. CONSTITUTION:In an engine having an intake air passage 14 provided with a mechanical turbocharger 22, a control unit 34 is supplied with signals from an intake air volume sensor 16, an opening degree sensor 36 of a throttle valve 18, an r.p.m. sensor 38, an altitude sensor 40 and the like. When a load exceeds a prescribed discriminating value, an electromagnetic clutch 26 is engaged to make supercharging. When traveling in a high ground, the load discriminating value is made smaller so that the supercharging is started even if the load is smaller. With such an arrangement, supercharging is started with a smaller throttle opening, whereby frequency for using power increase is reduced and sensibility in operating an accelerator is improved.
