PURPOSE:To make it possible to surely cut a material into pieces before the material being conveyed into the next process station, by providing an auxiliary division control section for delivering a dividing instruction to a dividing section, which is adapted to be alternatively used for a division control section in a rolling line when the division control section fails in its operation. CONSTITUTION:A dividing device 1 is provided therein with an auxiliary division control section 4 for delivering a dividing instruction to a dividing section 2 when a division control section 5 fails in its operation. That is, the auxiliary division control device 15 determines the motion in accordance with a motion signal M delivered from a division control device 6 through an alarm output device 13. When no motion signal is delivered, it is judged that the division control device 6 fails in operation, and therefore, if a time Tb which is accumulated from the time when a detection signal S is delivered from a material detector 8 in accordance with the time intervals Ta of divisions come to be equal to the time intervals Ta of divisions, a dividing instruction C is delivered to a division drive device 4. Further, division severing machining 3 is driven.
