PURPOSE:To enable optical writing with small-sized lightweight semiconductor laser by irradiating ultraviolet rays on an optical recording medium having a specified recording layer and by irradiating infrared rays in accordance with information to be recorded to discolor the irradiated parts. CONSTITUTION:Ultraviolet rays are irradiated on an optical recording medium having a recording layer having a monomolecular film or a built-up film of a diacetylene deriv. compound having both hydrophilic and hydrophobic moieties and contg. one or more kinds of dyes selected among pyrylium dyes, thiopyrylium dyes and selenopyrylium dyes. Infrared rays having 800-90nm wavelength are then irradiated in accordance with information to be recorded to discolor the irradiated parts of the recording layer. The diacetylene deriv. compound having both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups is a compound capable of causing 1,4-addition polymn. reaction between CidenticalC-CidenticalC-C functional groups in adjacent molecules, e.g., a compound represented by a formula H(CH2)m-CidenticalC-CidenticalC-(CH2)n-X (where X is a hydrophilic group forming a hydrophilic moiety and each of m and n is an integer). |
