PURPOSE:To remove uncomfortableness due to a disturbed monitor image and to improve reproducing quality by forming a mimic video pattern generator to record sound by reducing a recording level when the generator is to be used only for sound and also forming a circuit for detecting the existence of the input of a video signal to be recorded. CONSTITUTION:Two methods are prepared when only sound is to be recorded. The 1st method switches the contact points of function switch circuits 5, 9 manually to the switching point (a) side and the nd method does not input a video signal S1 without operating the circuits 5, 9. In the 1st method, an output signal S2 of the mimic video pattern generating circuit 2 is inputted to a video signal recording processing circuit 6 and an output signal S3 from the circuit 2 is reduced at its level and recorded through an attenuator 7, a recording amplifier 10 and an output terminal 11. In the 2nd method, no input of the video signal S1 is detected by a video signal input detecting circuit 3, the contact points of both switching circuits 4, 8 are turned to the switching point (a) side, and then recording is executed similarly to the 1st case.
