The invention relates to an apparatus and its use for authenticating the identity of a physical person. The identity authentication apparatus, generally used in connection with the specialised software of a computer system, is based on the result of the execution of a certification algorithm which employs: an identification code; a secret personnel code, a random code, delivered by the specialised software of a computer system. The apparatus represented in the figure consists of a housing 1 in which are incorporated standard mechanical and electronic components: a screen for displaying alphanumeric characters; a microprocessor 3 tasked with managing the basic functions and executing the processing of the certification algorithm; a memory 4, in which the particular code of each apparatus is kept, which is read-accessible only, recorded at manufacture and unable to be modified; a memory 5, in which a secret code is kept, accessible by the microprocessor, initiated at manufacture and able to be modified; a memory module 6 in which are recorded: the internal code of the module, the thirty-seven numerical constants of the certification algorithm adopted. These information items, initiated at manufacture, are accessible by the microprocessor and can be modified by a user having the code of the apparatus and the secret code available. <IMAGE> |
