PURPOSE:To increase the feed speed of a part where mark intervals are long, to prevent the retrieval speed of even an information recording medium where image frames are present discretely from decreasing, and to shorten the retrieval time by varying the feed speed of the information recording medium during retrieval according to the interval length of marks of the information recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A timer part 32 normally sends out a control signal to a motor driver 34 so that a film F is fed at a speed faster than a count speed. When a rectangular wave output signal is sent out of a mark sensor 30, namely, when a mark 16 on the film F passes through the mark sensor 30, a signal for feeding the film F at the count speed is sent out to the motor driver 34 for a prescribed time from said passing time. While a part where no frame 15 of information is present on the film F, the film F is fed at a speed faster than the count speed. Then when the mark 16 passes through the part of the mark sensor 30, the feed speed of the film F is reduced and when the mark 16 reaches a mark detector 11, the feed speed of the film F becomes as fast as the count speed.
