PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of an exciting power source apparatus by intermittently controlling an exciting current, by providing a switch and a condenser to the exciting power source of an ultrasonic transducer and forming the condenser and the exciting coil of the transducer into a resonance circuit. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer is arranged in the vicinity of a conductive material and transmits and receives a high frequency pulse to perform flaw detection. A power source circuit 13 and a condenser 14 are provided in the exciting power source 5 of the transducer. When no exciting current is made to flow to an exciting coil 6, a switch 5 is opened and a switch 16 is closed to make the voltage of the condenser 14 equal to that of the power source circuit 13. When the exciting current is made to flow by the order of a control circuit 18, the switch 15 is closed and the switch 16 is opened and the charge of the condenser 14 is discharged through the exciting coil 6. At this time, the exciting current flowing to the resonance circuit of the condenser 14 and the exciting coil 6 is made synchronous so as to bring the absolute value of said exciting current to zero to intermittently control the exciting coil. Because the exciting current is intermittently controlled by the condenser and the switch, the apparatus is made inexpensive and the efficiency thereof can be improved.
