<p>PURPOSE:To inhibit hydrogen evolution from the cathode surface, to accelerate defoaming of hydrogen foams from the cathode surface, and to manufacture high- quality electrolytic iron minimized in impurity inclusion as well as in irregularity, by adding triethanolamine to an electrolytic bath in manufacturing electrolytic iron. CONSTITUTION:A consumable anode of soft steel or pure iron and a cathode made of stainless steel sheet are opposed to each other in an electrolytic bath and both electrodes are electrified, so that Fe of the anode is dissolved and leached out in the form of ferrous ion in the electrolytic bath and electrodeposited in the form of electrolytic iron onto the negative plate. At this time, hydrogen is evolved from the anode, and the resulting adhesion of the hydrogen foams causes irregularity to the electrolytic iron surface and also causes inclusion of electrodeposited electrolytic iron by electrolytic bath to increase impurity content, so that electrolytic iron undergoes deterioration in quality. In order to prevent the above, triethanolamine is added by one gram per liter of electrolytic bath under the atmosphere acidified with sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid. In this way, evolution of hydrogen and other gasses such as Cl, O, N, etc., in the electrolytic bath is inhibited and formation of inferior electrolytic iron can be prevented.</p> |
