PURPOSE:To allow calculated values to be in fair agreement with experimental values and to enable precise control, by conducting an operation according to respective amounts of reaction gas, fuel, solvent, etc., calculated under a calculation system into which the idea that a part of oxygen does not contribute to copper smelting reaction. CONSTITUTION:Elements such as Cu, S, Fe, O, Si, C, etc., constituting charges for an autogeneous copper smelting furnace, such as raw materials, fuel, etc., and reaction products such as matte, slag, etc., are made the objects of material balance calculation, where O contained in the above charges is classified as prepared or not prepared by reaction and the matte, slag, gas among the reaction products are constituted of Cu2S, FeS, FeO, Fe3O4, SiO2, Cu2O, S2, SO2, H2CO, CO2, O2, etc. Then material balance calculation and prescribed equations are solved simultaneously to determine the molar number of each compound present in each phase of the reaction products. Subsequently, the amount of Cu in the matte and the value of Fe/SiO2 in the slag are calculated from the above values and operation is performed so that these values agree with the desired values, respectively.
