PURPOSE:To obtain low-P molten pig iron without removing silica by adding magnesium oxide and/or magnesium carbonate to molten pig iron so as to regulate the MgO content in slag formed by desiliconization to a specified value and by adding a dephosphorizing agent without discharging formed slag. CONSTITUTION:When molten pig iron is desiliconized, magnesium oxide and/or magnesium carbonate is added to the molten pig iron so as to regulate the MgO content in slag formed by desiliconization to 20-80wt%. At this time, in order to increase the reaction efficiency, the magnesium compound is preferably added by direct blowing into the molten pig iron with an inert gas as a carrier gas. A dephosphorizing agent is then added without discharging the desiliconized slag to carry out dephosphorization.
