PURPOSE:To prevent a vehicle from running away even if an actuator for controlling a throttle valve fails, by releasing the control of constant speed travel if the actuator fails to close the throttle valve when an actual vehicle speed exceeds a set vehicle speed by more than a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:A constant speed travel device is constituted such that a controller 5 controls an actuator 10 for controlling the opening degree of a throttle valve so that an actual vehicle speed coincides with a set vehicle speed. Accordingly, the controller 5 determines that the actual vehicle speed exceeds the set vehicle speed, and that the actuator 10 malfunctions when a variation rate of working stroke of the actuator 10, which is detected by an actuator sensor 30 is positive, or that the actuator 10 opens the throttle valve, and then the control of constant speed travel is released. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the vehicle from running away even if the actuator 10 fails, thereby it is possible to ensure the safety of the vehicle.
