Radar method for detecting helicopters

A continuous-wave transmission covering the area to be monitored and having an impressed coding is transmitted from the radar transmitter (1) into the area to be monitored, via a transmitting antenna (2). For reception, directional resolution is carried out by means of a receiving lobe multiple, and range resolution is carried out by means of code compression in the receiving lobe channels. The classification of helicopter echo signals as distinct from other echo signals is carried out by means of echo signal processing (6) which is designed specifically for detecting helicopter radar signatures. The invention is provided for fast helicopter detection and classification. <IMAGE>
