<p>An object to be dehydrated is pinched and squeezed through a pair of rollers (11, 212) or plate-like squeezing members (331) whose squeezing surfaces are made of a hard porous member (6, C, 331) having water absorbing and retaining capacities through capillarity. The water squeezed out of the object is allowed to penetrate into the hard porous member by suction through capillarity or by a water pressure and retained therein because of the water-retaining capacity through capillarity to effect dehydration. The water retained in the hard porous member is discharged by feeding compressed air to thereby regenerate the capillary tube. The dehydration method and apparatus in accordance with the invention is suitable for dehydrating an object such as sludge.</p> |
