CULTURE OF ANAEROBIC BACTERIA

A composition for generating an anaerobic culture atmosphere, comprising a hydrated ferrous salt; two kinds of alkaline compounds, one of which being hydroxide of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, the other being a carbonate; and a sulfite of alkaline earth metal; or comprising, a ascorbic acid or salt thereof; a hydrated carbonate of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal; a bicarbonate of alkali metal; a metal compound selected from ferrous compound, and cuprous or cupric compound; and a porous carrier. A process for culturing an anaerobic bacterium, utilizing a composition for generating an anaerobic atmosphere such as those described above for rendering O2 concentration to not more than 0.1% and CO2 concentration to 5 to 50% within 6 hours.
