It is required that large rings such as slewing rings applied in (off-) shore cranes are regularly inspected on defects e.g. cracks appearing in critical zones. Such an important inspection zone concerns the bearing arrangement (2, 5, 7; 3,6,8). To avoid the costly dismounting and mounting work of said rings for inspection it is proposed to install ultra-sonic probes of standard types in the housings (10) of sewing rings (4). During rotation of said ring scanning of the critical zones (2, 14 and 3, 18) by the (opposite) arranged probes in the housing (15 and 10 resp.) can be effected. |
