PURPOSE:To obtain desired appearance by small equipment, by applying at least two kinds of top coats respectively containing titanized mica pigments having mutually different colors to the colored bottom coat film of an article to be painted in a superposed state in a thickness ratio obtaining desired hue. CONSTITUTION:Top coats combined so as to obtain a desired color by compounding among top coats respectively containing a variety of titanized mica pigments are respectively applied to the colored bottom coat film 2 applied to the surface of an article 1 to be painted in succession so as to obtain predetermined dry film thicknesses to form top coat films 3a, 3b. Next, a clear coat film 4 is formed on the top coat film 3b in a wet state and all of the films are baked and dried to obtain a pearl gloss coat film. In this case, because the reference colors of titanized mica pigments are five kinds, by only preparing five kinds of equipments such as coat tanks, many kinds of hues can be obtained.
