Machines for the packaging of bulk goods, especially foodstuffs, semi-luxuries and pharmaceuticals, in bags, preferably in flat bags made of heat-sealable wrapping material, have the disadvantage that they expose the web of wrapping material to considerable stresses and the bags to considerable accelerations during the feed. These disadvantages are avoided by means of compact design of the machine. In order to achieve a careful transport of the wrapping material and of the bags, there is proposed a machine, in which a roll of wrapping material (40), a movable folding wedge (29), a sealing station, a cutting station, a metering device and a stepping gear (4) of a turntable are driven by a geared motor (3) via a gear (2), a chain wheel (7), an endless chain (8) and chain wheels (9, 10, 11, 12) having following machine elements, the axles (13, 14, 15) of the chain wheels (9, 10, 11) and the output shaft (6) of the gear (2) and the drive shaft (16) of the stepping gear (4) being in alignment with one another (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
