摘要 In order to arrive at a compact construction with low weight of few components in the case of an internal combustion engine with a predetermined power output, two cylinders are arranged coaxially at an interval from one another so that the cylinder heads point outwards and the cylinder bases inwards. An axially displaceable piston is located in each cylinder. The two pistons are rigidly connected to one another by way of the piston rod. In each cylinder the ports are fitted for gas exchange by the known two-stroke principle (loop, cross and phased peripheral scavenging etc.). With the reciprocating movement of the pistons in the cylinders, the working process occurs in each cylinder by the two-stroke principle. The mechanical energy produced in the cylinders during the working process from the combustion of the fuel is transmitted by the crosshead, arranged between the pistons, by way of one or more connecting rods to the crankshaft. In another embodiment of the invention electrical or hydraulic energy can be produced directly by way of the piston rod in that, instead of the crosshead, a hydraulic piston or a coil or a magnet are fixed on the piston rod and are enclosed by a cylinder or magnets and/or coil.
