<p>PURPOSE:To enable medium tone display and to improve orientation characteristics by sealing ferroelectric liquid crystals in a space between electrode substrates which have been subjected to specified treatment. CONSTITUTION:SiO2 film 13, oblique deposited thin SiO2 film 14 deposited with a specified deposition angle, film 15 of perpendicular orientation material, are laminated on a glass substrate 11 provided with a transparent electrode 12, and a liquid crystal display element is formed by sealing ferroelectric liquid crystals in a space between confronting similar electrode substrates. By this orientation treatment forming the film 14 and 15, the orientation characteristics of the liquid crystal display element are improved. Further, the transmittance of the liquid crystal display element is varied by the oblique deposition treatment of the film 13 depending on the peak value and the phase; and medium tone display basing on three states display has become possible. Moreover, similar result may be attained if rubbing treatment is executed in place of oblique deposition treatment.</p> |
