<p>The unit (1) which is mounted (8) in the monitored vehicle contains a microprocessor (2), clock and a 64 Byte memory (3). The unit is supplied (4,5) with d.c. power from the vehicle battery and a pulsed signal (6) from the digital odometer. Every 5 minutes an eight-bit byte representing the year, month, day and hour is stored in the memory together with another 8-bit byte representing the odometer reading. At preset intervals the unit can be unsealed, the memory, which is an EPROM, can be removed from the unit and the data analysed and printed out. The data can be used to check the driver's working hours and private use of the vehicle. This information supplies checks on the driver's overtime and expenses claims, and can also be used to supply evidence for income tax purposes.</p> |
