PURPOSE:To widen a stable control range by disposing mechanically connected paired electromagnets above and below rails, and mounting a permanent magnet on the core of the lower electromagnet disposed under the rails. CONSTITUTION:A levitating apparatus 10 has ferromagnetic rails 11, electromagnets 12, 13 disposed oppositely above and below the rails 11, a permanent magnet 14 fixed onto the core 12a of the lower electromagnet 12, and a coupling member 15 for mechanically connecting the cores 12a, 13a of the electromagnets 12, 13 at one side of the rails. The magnet 14 which is so regulated that the attracting force is equal to the loading weight when gaps G1, G2 of the electromagnets to the rails 11 are standard gap value is used. Thus, no only upward force but also downward force can be generated to increase the controlling range.
