A head restraint in a motor vehicle is proposed, which in accordance with German Offenlegungsschrift 3,332,728 can be swivelled in a bracket between a lowered position and an in-use position, the in-use position being locked via a rotary latch which is locked by means of a locking pawl. A driving device with a power drive, a planet gear mechanism and a driving gearwheel which is driven by said mechanism and engages on the bearing elements for rotation in common is releasably flanged onto the bearing elements. Whilst the rotary latch maintains the direct locking of the head restraint, the planet gear mechanism automatically controls the locking pawl of the rotary-latch lock by the support of individual members, which changes during the sequence of movement, and, via the bearing elements, the swivelling movement of the head restraint.
