PURPOSE:To change easily a stand-alone operating device to a terminal operated under a central control unit by using an interface for standard data communication as the interface between a keyboard and a device body. CONSTITUTION:A computer 4 finds an address of a microfilm in accordance with picture retrieval information inputted from the keyboard and sends this address to a microfilm scanner 1 to output pertinent picture information to a laser beam printer 3. If the interface, for example, an RS232C used between the keyboard and the device body is used for transmission and reception of control information between the computer 4 and the scanning reader 1, they are connected immediately with respect to hardware because the computer is always equipped with the interface of the RS232C normally.
