<p>The robot (1) is of the type having a single articulated arm which carries an operating tool, e.g. drill, grinder, spanner, welding head, etc., on its end or 'head'. In the present robot, the head (2) also carries a box-shaped element (3) containing a light source and photodetector. As the head moves through space along a three-dimensional track (5), it passes close to a number of fixed matt-white surfaces. At these points the beam (6) from the light source is reflected (7) to the detector. The box (3) is connected to a unit (10) which contains the light source power supply and a reflected signal processor. The processor output can be fed (11) to a display unit, memory or printer.</p> |
