METHOD FOR PRODUCING CARBON POWDERS

A method for producing carbon powders having a benzene-insoluble component content of not lower than 95% by weight, a quinoline-insoluble component content of not less than 80% by weight and volatile matter content of 4-15% by weight is disclosed. The carbon powders can be used as a raw material for the production, without the use of a binder, of isotropic various carbon articles having widely ranging properties, that is, carbon articles ranging from a carbon article having relatively low density and strength to a carbon article having high density and strength which have not been attained by a conventional method. Further, the carbon articles produced from the carbon powders have various electric resistivities.
