PURPOSE:To forecast automatically a failure generated position by calculating automatically a distance between two conductors which should be in an insulated relation essentially. CONSTITUTION:A CPU10 controls servo-motors 3a, 3b by fetching an output of a quadrisected sensor 7 through an inputting circuit 13, so that outputs of four sensors integrated into the sensor 7 become the same magnitude, namely, so that the center of a through-hole P0 coincides with the detection center of the sensor 7. When the center of the hole P0 coincides with the detection center of the sensor 7, the outputs of encoders 14, 15 are fetched to the CPU10 through the circuit 13, the first contact 4 is moved from a holding position, and the contact 4 is inserted into the hole P0. In the same way, when the second contact 5 is inserted into a through-hole P1, a connecting data between the contacts 4, 5 is detected and stored 30. Subsequently, the contact 4 is pressed against the hole P0, and by the contact 5, an electric conducting state to holes P2-Pn is inspected. In this way, the shortest position is derived, its position is inspected, and unless an abnormal state exists, the position of the second shortest distance is derived, and inspected automatically.
