PURPOSE:To prevent data which must not be erased, from being erased by mistake, by deciding whether the data which is stored in the corresponding area can be erased by specified information or not. CONSTITUTION:An IC card is constituted of a control element (for instance a CPU) 15, a data memory 16, a program memory 17, and a contact part for obtaining a contact to a card reader/write which is not shown in the figure. In this state, for instance, when erasing instruction data is inputted from the card reader/writer, the element 15 decodes a function code, and simultaneously, decides whether an area corresponding to an index contained in the instruction data can be erased or not, by referring to the data of the area of the index. As a result of this decision, if it cannot be erased, a response data for signifying a fact that the erasion is impossible, and the device is returned to a state for waiting for an input of the instruction data. |
