PURPOSE:To improve the suction gas charging efficiency of an engine by connecting each of separate suction passages relating to both banks in which a suction stroke is alternately executed with a surge tank mounted on each of the banks, and making the surge tanks communicate mutually through communicating passages provided with a control valve respectively. CONSTITUTION:A front and a rear cylinder head 3, 4 are arranged on a cylinder block 2 in mutual inclination at an angle to form a front and a rear bank 1A, 1B, and mutually opposite suction ports 8 opening toward each of the cylinder heads 3, 4 are formed inside them respectively. A suction device is composed of a suction manifold 6 to form a front and a rear separate suction passage 10, 11 connected to the each suction port 8, and an upper and a lower surge tank 13, 14 to which the upper stream end of each of the suction passages 10, 11 arranged above the rear bank 1B is connected respectively. The surge tanks 13, 14 communicate mutually through a communicating passage 26 provided in a space E formed at the one end of the lower surge tank 14, and a communicating control valve 27 which is opened according to an increase in an engine speed is provided on the above communicating passage 26.
