A jug (40) having a lateral handle (12) has a plastic lid (10) covering its opening. So that this lid does not slide off even when pouring and yet is suitable for wide diameter tolerances of the jug (40), the lid (10) has, on its underside and only in the region of the handle (12), a clamping device which engages around the upper edge (16) of the jug such that it clamps it from the outside and inside. <IMAGE>
