In order to prepare communal waste, the waste is first fed to a mill 1 after which, following first coarse screening on a coarse screen 2 and further screening on a dividing screen 4, it is led over hard material separators 5 and 6 and magnetic separators 7 and 9. The screen overflow from the first coarse screen 2 is likewise divided into two fractions, after magnetic separation 3, with the aid of a further coarse screen 16 with a larger mesh size. The fractions obtained are fed to wet preparation and, optionally, at least to some extent to a composting operation. A plurality of fine screens 8, 10 and 17 is provided in order to separate out adhesive granules and extremely fine granules and in this way to be able to work up separately fractions rich in heavy metals. As a result, the wet preparation permits building-material and coloured metal fractions to be obtained, and also separate fibrous raw materials and separate plastic fractions, non-ferrous metal fractions, waste fuel fractions and raw materials for hydrolysis.

|
