PURPOSE:To obtain the turning position and its absolute value of a rotary shaft by providing a rotary code disk fixed to one end of the rotary shaft provided in a casing, a detection section reading its rotary code and a detection section reading a linear code of a linear moving code body provided on the rotary shaft. CONSTITUTION:The rotary shaft 5 is held freely turnably to the casing 1 and the linear moving code body 7 is held to the rotary shaft 5 movably. A linear code 8 is formed to the upper face. Further, it is prevented that the code body 7 turned interlockingly with the rotary shaft 5 is turned by guides 9, 10. When the rotary shaft 5 is turned, as the rotary code disc 12 turns, the linear moving code body 7 is moved straight forward by the screw feeding. When the code disk 12 is turned, four strings of the rotary codes 14 are turned and a 4-bit signal is outputted from four sensors of the detection section 15 to detect the turning position of the rotary shaft 5. Moreover, a lead 16 of the linear moving code body 7 and the pattern of a linear code 8 are coincident and a minimum bit signal per turning of the rotary shaft 5 is obtained from the four sensors of the detection section 11.
