PURPOSE:To shorten the decision time and the discrimination time by changing dynamically the sequence of a present processing, by information for showing by which processing an object of the same kind decided in the past has been decided in case of deciding the present object. CONSTITUTION:The surface pattern of an object 1 is enlarged through a object lens 2, and made to form an image on the image pickup surface of a TV camera 3. The image formed surface is scanned electrically by the camera 3 and the image of the surface pattern is converted to an analog image signal 3s, and the signal 3s is converted to a digital image signal 4s by an A/D converter 4, and thereafter, stored as a digital image in an image memory 5. A computer 6 refers to the memory 5 and executes in order a processing corresponding to each decision item, and decides whether the surface pattern is good or not. In this way, the sequence of the processing can be changed dynamically by always storing the information for showing which processing has executed the final decision or discrimination against the object in the past, among a series of decision processings or discrimination processings.
