A re-usable urinary incontinence appliance comprises a liquid-impermeable flexible envelope (1) having an aperture (3) for urine reception, the envelope being filled with a resilient material (2) through which urine is readily transmissible at a rate of 1 ml/s or higher. The material is preferably a coarse grade skelton foam material having a pore size of about 2 mm and a major void volume. For female use the appliance is preferably of generally flattened asymmetric dumb-bell overall shape, with an elongate aperture (3) along the necked portion of one major face. The envelope interior can be interconnected by a tube (5) with a storage vessel, and an intermittently-operable pump used to transfer urine to the vessel. The pump may be activated in response to urine sensors (12) and the pump control system may include a timer. <IMAGE> |
