PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording image having excellent stability and high quality by irradiating radiations to a specific optical recording medium according to recording information to discolor the medium, irradiating reading light of a short wavelength thereto and reading the information. CONSTITUTION:The recording information of the optical recording medium having the recording layer contg. a polydiacetylene deriv. compd. and >=1 kinds selected from a pyrylium dye, thiopyrylium dye and selenopyrylium dye is read by irradiating 800-900nm IR thereto according to the recording information to discolor the irradiated parts of the recording layer and irradiating 550-750nm visible light thereto. Since the recording layer contains the pyrylium dye to absorb the IR rays of the wavelength within a 800-900nm range, the optical writing is executed by using a small-sized and lightweight semiconductor laser and the reading by the small-sized and lightweight semiconductor laser and light emitting diode is possible. This recording and reproducing method utilizes the change of the hue of the recording layer by the irradiation of the light and therefore, the optical writing at a high speed, high density and high sensitivity and the optical reading at a high speed with high accuracy are executed. |
