摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To uniform a contrast ratio over the entire image and to obtain excellent picture quality having no afterimage by making the orientation direction of liquid crystal molecules on a substrate which has an MOS thin film transistor (TR) parallel or semiparallel to a gate line direction. CONSTITUTION:Liquid crystal molecules on the substrate on the side of an active element are oriented in parallel or almost in parallel to the gate line 4. The direction of an electric field based on the potential difference between a source line 5 and a picture element electrode 6 is the same with the orientation direction of the liquid crystal molecules in a driving state, so the orientation direction 3 of the liquid crystal molecules is unchanged regardless of the potential difference between the source line and picture element electrode. Therefore, there is no difference between contract ratios on and under a panel. Further, there are two states, i.e. an initial orientation state and a turn-on state by a video signal even in a boundary area on the side of the source line of the picture element electrode, but the two orientation states are coupled continuously, so discrimination and a defect in orientation are hard to occur and the problem of an afterimage due to the switching of image patterns hardly occurs.</p>
