PURPOSE:To provide the titled medium having high output, high S/N and good wear resistance, durability, etc. by incorporating a phenoxy resin having a negative org. group as a binder into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The phenoxy resin contg. the negative org. group is incorporated as the binder into the magnetic layer. At least 1 carboxyl groups, sulfo groups or phospho groups are incorporated therein as the negative org. group. Phosphate is preferably incorporated into the magnetic layer. The negative org. group modified phenoxy resin is formed by substituting at least one hydroxyl group existing in the phenoxy resin with the negative org. group or an ether group (for example, ethoxy group, phenoxy group) or acyl group (for example, propionyl group) or acyloxy group having the negative org. group at the terminal. The carbon atoms of the ether group or the acyl group, acyloxy group are preferably 1-20 pieces.
