PURPOSE:To obtain novel polarizing film having high polarizing performance, superior heat resistance and moisture resistance, and high transmittance for light by specifying the mol.wt. of a polymer having an ester group and a dichroic dye residue as unit structure. CONSTITUTION:Uniaxially oriented film is formed from polyester comprising a mixture of polymers having dichroic dye residue and ester linkage as structure units and <=10,000mol.wt. Preferred proportion of the polymer to the polyester is 0.01-48, more pref. 0.05-10wt%. The kind and the number of the dichroic dye are not restricted particularly. For color polarizing film, it is sufficient to select only one kind of dichroic dye having desired absorption region. If polarizing film having neutral color covering the whole visible region is desired, black dye, or dichroic dye having red, yellow, or blue color is combined basing on the additive complementary color relation. |
