An aluminium based alloy material having a grain size coarser than 600/750/1000 is clad on at least one face with an aluminium alloy comprising:- .Mg.0.4-1.5% .Si.0.3-1.3% .optionally Mn 0.4-1.0%. .optionally Zn 0.2-1.5%. the balance, apart from impurities such as Fe and Cu being aluminium. The manganese may be replaced by Cr. Core materials described are:- .Cu.2.65-2.7% .Mg.1.33-1.4% .Si.0.14% .Fe.1-1.05% .Ni.1.04-1.07% .(Mn.0.07-0.14% .(Zn.0.02-0.06% Impurity .(Cr.0.02-0.06% amounts .(Ti.0.06-0.13% the balance being aluminium. The composite may be annealed at 400 DEG C. and solution treated in a salt bath at about 500 DEG C. (e.g. 530 DEG C.) after cold rolling. |
