PURPOSE:To obtain a bi-directional transmission optical module which can be made simpler and more economical by providing an optical waveguide on the top surface of a substrate, arranging multi-layered filters on both end surfaces of the substrate, and arranging a semiconductor light emitting element or light receiving element behind the filters. CONSTITUTION:An optical signal (wavelength lambda1) from a semiconductor light emitting element 10 passes through a filter 6C and enters a slab waveguide 3. Then, the light is converted into parallel light by a geodesic lens 5 and propagated, and the light is reduced at the edit part of the geodesic lens 5 and converged into the core part 23 of an optical fiber 14, so that the light is propagated as shown by an arrow 21. An optical signal (wavelength lambda2) from a semiconductor light emitting element 9, on the other hand, passes through a filter 6B and is reflected by a filter 7 and the filter 6C and propagated as shown by an arrow 21. An optical signal with wavelength lambda3 which is propagated as shown by an arrow 22 is reflected by the filter 6C, the filter 7, the filter 6B, and the filter 7 to pass through a filter 6A, and the light passes through a semiconductor element 8 and is photodetected by the light receiving element 11. |
