The liquid-crystal display (5) with a plurality of lines (6) of alphanumeric characters and the speed dialling keys (7) corresponding to the lines (6) are disposed on a folding panel (9). A fixing device (12) with a spring-loaded catch (13, 17) and a toothed segment (15) fixed to the folding panel (9, 14) allow the folding panel (9) to be locked in a plurality of positions (A, B, M) at different heights. A push-button slide (22, 18) accessible from the rear right-hand side is engaged with the catch (13, 21) and allows the raised folding panel (9) to be dropped back into the low position (B). On the other hand, elasticity to resist excessive pressure or even impact on the raised folding panel (9) is provided by the inclination of the locking area (angle f). The arrangement provides a facility for choosing between an improved view of the display (5) or beyond the device and a robust construction. <IMAGE>
