A laminated floor covering has a flexible wearing surface comprising plasticized polyvinyl chloride resin, a flexible backing comprising plasticized cellular polyvinyl chloride resin, a supporting open-weave fabric positioned between the wearing surface and the cellular backing, and an adhesive film for adhering the wearing surface to the backing through the openings in the fabric consisting of a plasticized film of a vinyl chloride polymer selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl chloride and vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, the film having a thickness in the range of 110- 200% of the thickness of the fabric and containing plasticizer for the vinyl chloride polymer in an amount of 20-65% by weight thereof. The open-weave fabric may comprise a glass fibre fabric. The laminate may be made by passing a web of the cellular backing, a web of the fabric, and a web of the wearing surface, together with a film of the adhesive extruded between the fabric and the wearing surface, between the nip of a pair of laminating rollers. Heat is applied to the cellular layer immediately prior to laminating.</p> |
