PURPOSE:To increase an opportunity to recover data by counting up the execution number of times of re-reading operation when a bit of information regarding a detected data error and the bit of information regarding a data error at the last time detection coincide, and controlling so as to reset a counter. CONSTITUTION:A counter 5, when the data error is not detected in a data readout time, and when the data error, the content of which is varied by the re-reading operation is detected, is reset, and zero is outputted as a count data 14, meanwhile, when the data error, the content of which is not varied by the re-reading operation, is detected, the execution number of times for the re- reading operation are counted, and a result is outputted as the count data 14. A controller 6, when it detects a strobe signal 27, outputs a strobe signal 23, and latches a syndrome 12 generated in the data readout time at a register 3, and next, it decides whether the re-reading operation of the data should be continued or terminated, and controls a re-reading request signal 28 for the data referring a data error detection signal 21 and the count data 14.
