In a brake device for the cableway crab of a gymnastic and toy cableway in which the cableway crab runs on a somewhat inclined cable (1) from an upper suspension point to a lower suspension point, the crab is braked by a spring element (2) which extends between two bearing elements parallel to the cable (1) at a distance in front of the lower suspension point of the cable so as to be capable of being compressed by a stop element. The bearing element which serves as stop element (4) is displaceably mounted on the cable (1) and the bearing element which is constructed as an arresting element (3) is attached to the cable (1) in a non-displaceable fashion, the spring element (2) being mounted between the two bearing elements (3, 4) in such a way that when the cableway crab strikes the stop element (4) the displacement of the latter along the cable (1) in the direction of the other bearing element (3) is braked. The arresting element (3) and the stop element (4) each consist of two halves which can be separated from one another in such a way that the cable (1) can be inserted into recesses (23 and 24) provided for it in the two bearing elements (3, 4). <IMAGE>
