PURPOSE:To enable correction of a mistyped character, printing of a correct character, retrieval of a wrong word and presentation of a correct word to be automatically performed, by providing a keyboard with a correction executing key, providing a controller with an auto-correction controlling means, and adding a correction mode selecting key and a wrong word retrieving and correct word presenting means respectively to the keyboard and the controller. CONSTITUTION:When a correction key is operated, words before the position of a carriage at the time of the operation are checked one at a time by using a dictionary memory 140 and a user dictionary memory 134, and when a wrong word is found, it is stored into a wrong word memory 126, and is displayed on an LCD display 12. On the other hand, the first one of nominated words stored in a memory 128 is stored into a correct word memory 130, and is displayed on the display 12. When the correct word thus displayed is recognized as the desired word by the operator, a change key is operated, whereby the carriage is automatically moved to the position of a mistyped character in the wrong word, the mistyped character is corrected, a character to be printed in place of the mistyped character is read from the correct word memory 120, and is printed.
