PURPOSE:To enable a high thermal efficiency to be provided by a method wherein a catalyst body having a platinum catalyst carried on a honey-comb structure and a flame port main body for causing mixture gas of fuel gas and combustion air to be guided to a lower portion of the catalyst are arranged. CONSTITUTION:As fuel gas is injected from a nozzle 2, the fuel gas sucks air from a gap 3 to form mixture gas, passes through communication holes 13 and 13 to concave portions 11 and 11, further passes through a space between partition walls 1a and 1a of a catalyst 1 and then is injected to the upper surface of the catalyst 1. When the mixture gas is ignited, an overall temperature of the catalyst 1 is increased as the gas is burnt, and as the gas temperature is increased to more than about 150 deg.C, the platinum catalyst carried on the catalyst 1 may accelerate a contact reaction between the passing gas and the air, resulting in that the entire catalyst 1 is red heated and then a large amount of heat is released onto the upper surface of the catalyst. Thus, it becomes possible to make an efficient heating of the item 4 to be heated if the item is placed near the upper surface of the catalyst 1.
