PURPOSE:An antitumor agent, containing an organogermanium compound having thiogermatrane skeleton as a principal ingredient and capable of exhibiting particularly powerful inhibitory effect on IMC-carcinoma which is an ascitic tumorous cell of CDF mouse. CONSTITUTION:An antitumor agent containing an organogermanium compound expressed by formula I (R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl; R3 is H, lower alkyl or phenyl; Z is OH or NH2). A specific example of the compound includes a compound expressed by formula II, etc. The compound expressed by formula I is capable of inhibiting multiplication of IMC-carcinoma in a small dose of 1-10mg/kg and has better drug efficacy than that of a conventional drug. The compound expressed by formula I can be obtained by reacting carboxyethylgermanium sesquioxide expressed by formula III in which substituent groups R1-R3 are previously introduced with trithioethanolamine expressed by formula IV.
