PURPOSE:To obtain with high purity an Al-Li alloy hitherto considered to be impossible to refine, by carrying out refining in vacuum or in a nonoxidizing atmosphere by use of a vessel whose internal surface is constituted of CaO refractory in refining an Al-Li alloy. CONSTITUTION:In refining the Al-Li alloy, a vessel whose internal surface is constituted of CaO refractory, for example, calcia-enriched dolomite, etc., is used. As the formation of impurities is reduced with increasing CaO content in the CaO refractory, CaO content is regulated to >=90%. Refining is carried out by use of this vessel in vacuum or in a nonoxidizing atmosphere.
