PURPOSE:To reduce errors in printing, by providing a sensor for detecting the presence or absence of a printing paper and the trailing end of a thermal transfer film, in the vicinity of a thermal head. CONSTITUTION:In addition to a paper sensor 6 for detecting the presence or absence of a printing paper 1 and a cassette sensor 7 for detecting the presence or absence of a cassette 2 fitted in place, a third sensor 8 is provided in the vicinity of a thermal head, for detecting the presence or absence of the printing paper 1 and the trailing end of a thermal transfer film 21. With the third sensor 8 thus disposed, it is possible to detect the presence or absence of the printing paper 1 at a printing part, and errors such as failure to print on the printing paper and printing at a position deviated from a desired position can be prevented from being generated. In addition, it is possible to detect a trailing end part of the film 21 laminated with a metallic foil, and it is possible to eliminate the problem that favorable printing can not be achieved due to a condition where the film can not be taken up. |
