PURPOSE:To strengthen the support of a plate-like anode facing to a thermal cathode so as to stabilize the output of light, by supporting the anode at both ends thereof by means of two legs, thereby burying one leg to a stem as a lead-in wire. CONSTITUTION:On the inner wall of an envelope 1 made of such as glass, a phosphor material 2 is applied, and a thermal cathode 4 and plate-like anode 6 are arranged face to face in the envelope 1. Then, mercury gas and rare gas are charged therein, thus a display element used for electric display screen such as an image display device is formed. At this time, the anode 6 is supported by legs 7, 8 at its both ends while one leg 7 is buried in a stem 3 as a lead-in wire. And, the phosphor material 2 is exited by ultraviolet rays due to an arc discharge between the thermal cathode 4 and the anode 6 so as to radiate visible rays. Therefore, it is possible to strengthen the support of the anode 6 so as to stabilize the output of light and improve resistance against vibration.
