PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of an index signal pattern, by providing an ultra-violet ray absorbing layer between the metal back layer of a phosphor screen and an index signal stripe pattern of a beam index type color cathode-ray tube. CONSTITUTION:A phosphor screen comprising respective red, green and blue luminous phosphor stripes 2R, 2G and 2B, and a black stripe 3 is laid over the inner face of a bulb face 1 and a metal back layer 5 is placed thereon via a base film 4. And an ultra-violet ray absorbing layer 7 including 2- hydroxybenzo-phenone etc. is laid on the surface of said layer. Then, a mask with a given pattern is set thereon before exposure to ultra-violet ray so that any irregular reflection from the metal back layer 5 taking place in the process of forming an index signal stripe pattern 8 can be prevented. Therefore, the accuracy of an index signal pattern can be improved so as to aim at enhancement in the S/N ratio of the cathode-ray tube.
